Question: Wouldn’t it be great if you had a magic lamp that lights when you have a night terror? You’d wake to the comforting light instead of the dark. I made such a lamp for a friend who has night terrors. It’s called SafeWake, and it works by talking wirelessly to a fitness heart-rate monitor. SafeWake checks your heart rate while you sleep and lights the lamp when your heart races during a night terror. You can see more information at www.safewake.com.
I’ve found that turning on a bright light is a gentle way to interrupt a night terror. Loud noises can startle the sleeper. Same for touching the sleeper. Bright light can wake you up without being threatening. If the light doesn’t wake the sleeper it may wake their spouse so they can help.SafeWake is small and portable and easy to take on trips. It is discrete and doesn’t inspire people to ask questions about why it is in your bedroom.I designed SafeWake for an adult. Unfortunately, young children will be too small to safely wear a heart-rate monitor.Using SafeWake is simple: all you do is turn on the heart-rate monitor. SafeWake automatically connects and checks your heart rate throughout the night. Easy!I looked for years for a lamp like this with no luck. Now that I have one, I thought other folks might also want one, so I’m going to sell them on Kickstarter.com late in 2015.We have working prototypes yet there is still time to tweak the design. Do you have suggestions on how to improve SafeWake? How would you use it? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please share this with anyone you think it could help.Adam AhneFlux Nixie LLC
