Question: My husband’s father, 84 years old, literally beats the hell out of himself at night. He sleeps in a chair and we can hear him kicking and screaming, thumping the chair against the wall. There will be loud crashing noises from things he has kicked across the room. We’ve found him on the floor kicking and writhing about, sometimes even blocking the door, which is all the way across the room.
He slides out of his chair and tips it over….all in his SLEEP!!! The acts are so violent that the walls of the house will shake. I know what he has…I’m a nurse. I have mentioned this to my husband and told him that it will get worse and he will eventually harm himself or another person. They are both in denial and will do nothing about it. What am I supposed to do….it keeps me from sleeping because of the noise, but mostly from the fear that he will come out of his room during one of these “episodes” and attack me…or someone else. What to do???
