Question: Well.. hello. My name is Amy and I’m 15 years old. Ever since I can remember I’ve always had problems with sleeping at “normal socially acceptable times”. The best sleeping schedule for me would be to go to sleep at 7 am. and wake up anytime between 4 and 5 pm. Of course this can be a pain in the ass during school time but I guess I just have to cope with it.
My mom is trying to get me to take sleeping pills, but I don’t feel that it’s quite the right thing to do. DSPS is a part of me and actually I really don’t mind. I love staying up every night and that’s when I’m most creative and productive. If this is how we were born like then why should we fight it.The only thing I can think of, that might be a problem, is working early shifts/hours but then well.. just get a night job, or sleep for shorter periods multiple times a day.It may be difficult for other people to understand DSPS but who cares anyway, everybody’s different.I don’t think of this as a disorder rather than just something that makes me who I am.

I am 57. I have probably suffered from this “disorder” for 50 years. I was a chronic nightly sleepwalker as a child. My family now understands and we all work around it.
It is what it is. I guess we are supposed to guard the cave at night, it’s in our genes. You can’t change it, trust me I’ve tried melatonin, light boxes. Nothing works.
Sleep when you want.
