Question: I am curious to why the intense training military units (i.e. Navy Seals) go through involves long periods of sleep deprivation.
Can anyone share their thoughts on this?

uPt it this way.you have been sent on a mission overseas and it ruire you to observe enemy movements for a long period of time.without the training you fall asleep at a critical point and the no.1 enemy say osama bin laden escapes to an unknown location.how would you explain your actions to your superior?you fell asleep wont cut it. Hers another one-your asleep and the enemy sneaks up and stabs or shoots you and even your entire team. It pays to be able to go for long periods of time without sleeping but it all catches up with you eventually short term and long term.there are damn good reasons why our body and brain need daily nutrients and sleep. Due to sleep deprivation someone i know who was only sleeping once a week is now in a psychiatric ward from losing his mind and severely under weight.our bodies need to heal from daily activities.some side effects are depression hearing voices permanent sleeping disorders.depending on what damage has been done.
I was also in the army, in combat. I had a couple of tramatic injuries while serving, gs x4, ied. While in the military they always preached troop accountability, while sleeping, an for sure while on ops, since I have gotten out I have a horrible time sleeping an was wondering what other vets have done to solve the issue.
