Question: My son aged 4 years 10 months sweats a lot on the head and on the back, just when he starts to fall asleep (in the first half an hour). Later in sleep, he cools down and does not sweat. Earlier to falling asleep, he does not sweat much, even when he plays a lot.
Why is this happening?

My son, almost 4, has the same thing happen to him. He sweats so much in the first half hour that I have to turn his pillow and sometimes change his top as it is so wet. But for the rest of the night’s sleep he is fine… Very bizarre. Did you end up finding out what it is? I was very disappointed when I came to this page and found no answer.
There could be some physiological reason for this with your son….I don’t know.
But I too sweat in sleep, and I have found out exactly why (in my own case anyway) I do it when I’m COLD in bed! (strange but true)especialy when there is humidity to any coldness in the atmosphere. For instance, I always sleep with my window open slightly. If it rains in the night, I will wake up sweating a bit just once.
I learned that (for me) it’s best that I wear nice warm clothing in bed and bedsocks too. Then I don’t sweat!
But I certainly always do if I go to bed in just pants and t shirt.
Yes very odd….but then I guess I am!
I have no idea why that happens, unless it is the body trying to compensate by producing a little more heat. Then the hypothalamus thermostat-switch clicks on and a sweat comes to cool down the unusual rise in body temperature….perhaps it’s that in my own case.
May be no help to you, but I thought I’d add it anyway.
I don’t know why, but everyday i wake up with a yucky, greasy face. I’m not sure if its from the cold, but maybe dreams are to blame? I am a teenage girl, but I have stayed up all night and don’t have oily skin, so it must be something while i’m sleeping. I’ve washed my pillow, so thats not it. I have dreams most nights, but the ones where I do a lot of physical activity really do it for me. I also move in my sleep, i have waken up seeing my feet above my face! XD It must be about his dreams, hopefully they are good dreams 🙂
