Question: My daughter is 10 years old and in the last 6 months she has become too scared to fall asleep and says that she is scared but can’t tell me what she is scared of. She refuses to sleep in her own bedroom and even a night light hasn’t helped. I’ve tried discipline and rewards but neither has worked.
I have 2 younger children and don’t have the time or energy to sit with her until she falls asleep. She ends up sleeping next to my bed every night. I don’t think she’s getting a restful night’s sleep.I’m wondering if I should try any homeopathic remedies. Any suggestions?

I work with a lot of different families and children as a therapist – my area of specialty being trauma. Such a sudden avoidance of sleep can be indicative of a number of different manifestations of anxiety. If a doctor is unable to determine what her avoidance of sleep is related to, it may be helpful to seek the guidance of a mental health professional. Avoidance of sleep may be an indication of nightmares, intrusive thoughts, re-experiencing, separation anxiety, etc. Often, children are ashamed or afraid to speak up about something terrible that has happened and will not tell a parent or any other close adult unless they are asked directly. Children sometimes feel that their parents would be deeply wounded by their disclosures. Parents often feel uncomfortable addressing such unpleasant issues, but it frequently brings a sense of relief and safety to a child to know that they can tell. It may be worth looking into.
I SO understand what you are going through. I have just posted a page to this effect, but the way in which you wrote this could have been from our family! We are experiencing exactly the same problems, although our daughter has always had problems with sleep. Her anxiety is increasing and that is affecting her sleep. Then she is sleep deprived and so the vicious circle starts. Have you found anything that works? Please let me know. I will alsi try to email you!

We are in the same place with our daughter going to bed ok, but always making sure the room is sorted and not spooky before she snuggles down. She then goes off to sleep, but then wakes up at 1 or 2 and won’t settle unless she ends up near us. We think anxiety is the cause, but what to do to resolve it has us beat.
i have a beautiflu little girl who has slept 12 hours every night for most of her 7 years. recently she has started to get very scared of closing her eyes . she is telling me that when she closes her eyes the ceiling gets bigger and it scares her.
we have had to lay next to her until she eventually falls asleep. it is very truamatic for a little one to go through this, if anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening and how to stop it please , please let me know.
I am 12 years old and have had trouble sleeping for the past 2 or 3 months. My parents have been very helpful but if I can’t fall asleep easily, I get very upset and worried. It has emproved quite a bit and one night I thought it had gone but lately, I haven’t been able to fall asleep. It used to be around 10:30-11:00 pm when I would fall asleep but thankfully I now fall asleep at about 10:00, but it’s still not normal for me as I used to be able to fall asleep really easily. Please help me. If you have suggestions, please comment.
I hope to be sleeping soon.
I started having sleep paralysis when I was 7 years old. I slept on the couch that night and woke up frozen. I couldn’t move, talk or scream. I seen my mom leave her bedroom and use the bathroom. I remember trying to scream for her, but I couldn’t. This scared me so much that I hated sleeping. Nor did I think anyone would believe me if I told them. I kept having these “episodes” and still do til’ this day.
With sleep paralysis, you can also hallucinate. It is indeed scary, especially for a child. She can see things that aren’t there. Most commonly, people see a hag, demons, shadow people, etc.
Just a thought, but reassure her that by telling you what is going on, you can help her. 🙂
my daughter is 10 years old is always scared of going to sleep and always worries she is dyin it is really affecting her life.i need to no how to get her to feel safe and to get her better.
Hello, It seems that we are in the same boat. My 10 year old daughter doesn’t sleep in her bed either. She will fall asleep in my bed and then we move her to her own bed. Anytime between 12 and 3 am she will wake up and come to my bed. She is a very light sleeper and also very restless. She stetches out over me, digs her legs and/or arms into me and right now I am so tired as I don’t get a good night’s sleep.I have decided to find a sleep therapist maybe that will help.

I so appreciate Misty’s comments about her child being afraid of falling asleep because of the fear of dying. My 12 year old daughter has been going through that for about 2 months now. It started with sleep paralysis, but she’s now afraid that when she falls asleep, she’ll stop breathing. She just about goes to sleep and then, all of a sudden, she awakes as if she’s gasping for air. It’s never a full-blown panic attack, but it still worries me. I’ve also noticed that she sighs a lot during the day. Suggestions anyone?
Update – My daughter is 13 years now and is sleeping through the night, in her sisters bedroom. We realised that we were out of our depth and needed help so I ended up taking her to our family doctor who referred her to a phycologist. We all went in for a few sessions and some how she made up her mind that she would not be afraid again. My advice is to accept that it is a real fear, and to talk to your family docotor. Good luck everyone and happy dreams

I’m 13 years old and I’ve always had sleeping problems. When I was little I was afraid of the dark, but know it has turned to some sort of insomnia. I went to a doctor and he gave me some pills to help me sleep but they didn’t help. Normally, during winter I go to bed around midnight (and that’s early for me) and wake up around 6a.m. (Which is about an hour earlier than I should). However, during summer I tend to go to sleep at around four in the morning and it’s getting very tiring. Also the quality of sleep that I’m getting is so terrible that I wake up so tired I can’t move my own legs. Lastly, I have trouble falling asleep and it could take me up to 5 hours or until the sun rises. What should I do?
I used to be very scared due to watching scary movies/trailers and such. I wouldnt shut my eyes due to being scared that I would see a face or something like that. I would keep my eyes open until my body finally got so tired I would eventually fall asleep. I had told my mom sometimes and she told me to just calm down at night and such. At my age now, 11 I am still kind of scared of going to sleep. Im always scared someone would look through my window, or be behind me or something freaky like that. I usually at night stay up and watch tv and use my computer until I get so tired I cant even keep my eyes open which is usually 12 – 1 am. I know im not getting a lot of sleep at night and I know it has to change. I only feel comfortable when I am with someone else. I always tell my body at night, “come on go to sleep” or something like that but I never can because I hear one noise in my house or outside and i freak out again. I try not to use my laptop at night before I go to sleep because I am scared that it will make me unhealthy. I try to read a book or something but it never helps me “calm down” I usually like to watch videos of beauty channels or something that will make me happy. Im not sure what will help me. But the only thing that probably caused me to be scared so much is watching scary movies, clips, and such on youtube. My suggestion is to ask your children if the’ve watched anything scary online or on tv or if their friends told them anything. If not im not sure what could cause it.
my daughter has always been a great sleeper untill about 2 months ago we were going to watch a movie together and one of the adverts had a really scary looking thing on singind a chidrens rym, well i must admit it wasnt pleasent looking but it made my daughter jump,i exxplained to her has i knew it had scared her that it was just make up,but she went on about it at every 5 mins, that night was the start of it all “my nightmare”.she kept saying i am scared i keep seeing it in my room,i explained again it was make up it was all for making of films etc etc, told her to remember nice things she finally fell to sleep, but a hour later she was in my room waking me,after this it got worse and worse she would shout me every night checking if i was still awake, then the sobbing and screaming began, making out she was ill,i have tryed everything from bribs to anger,HELP…
Am experiencing the same kinds of things with our 10-year old daughter. Bedtime has been difficult for years but has worsened recently. I came across the document below. It has some useful ideas that may help:
http://www.ogradywellbeing.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/HelpYourChildSleepAlone2.pdf
Also plan to ask the pediatrician if there is anything he/she would recommend.
I can’t sleep EVER I have usually gone to sleep around 8 and wake up at 12 then 1:30 then 4 every night its driving my parents crazy and they have done almost everything they can please if somebody can help I’m writing this at 2:30 (i can’t sleep)
Hello. I am ten years old and have trouble sleeping at night. I try to do all the things the website are telling me to do but it isn’t working. I just want to go to sleep! Ok. I usually go to bed around nine, but sometimes I stay up reading till like ten or eleven. It’s getting out of hand now. I think that I will gt robbed or have to stand up for my family in the night if we get robbed, and that kinda freaks me out. And sometimes I think I hear the door open, but it’s just the AC. Please helpð¢
Okay. I am going to the chyphirotrist tomarrow and I am hoping that will help because we are getting adjusted so our spines will be in place. And that is what causes it the most, is your spine. If it is out of line then is could mess your sleeping up, your boady shape, your speech, and your arm/leg length. I am positive this will help me so I am going to try and get through the night tonight and hope I will be sleeping like a baby tomorrow night!!
I am a 13 year old girl and I am writing this as I can’t sleep.
For months after I watched the woman in black I had to sleep with the light on. I stopped recently but today I had to turn it on because me and my friends are watching insidious tomorrow and I don’t want to back out, instead I tried to prepare myself by reading a summary of the movie but now I am more scared. I have surrounded myself with my little ponies and Zelfs and Im scared to go off my phone. I’ve been reading tips for the last half hour and am not feeling great. Maybe it’s because I’m in a bunk bed and can’t see beneath me. Or maybe it’s because I have big tests next month. I only posted because many other kids were posting.
Please help,

Put your(their) favorite record on before you
go to sleep,or your/their favorite radio station.(and let it on the entire night).
A “loud” wall clock helps
your(their) subconsciousness mind relax,
it might annoy you(them) at first but
you(r) will(brain) adjust to it quickly.
Move your(their) bed close(next) to a wall
and face your(their) head towards it(wall),
it’ll resemble the feeling of when
baby is tucked in tightly,it gives
you(them) a secure feeling (being safe).
Few other things might help.
– Enough fresh air every day.
– Yoga.
– Correct eating habit’s.
– Less TV,Internet and such
for a period of time.
– Interacting(in person)more with other people.
– no wallpaper, paint the walls with.
your(their) favorite color.
Please don’t take(give) any sort of pills or drugs (even if they are recommended by doctors,
therapists or such). Each brain
are unique and no one really knows how different sleep drugs effect to (especially) young child’s brain. (or even adult that matter).
DRUGS ARE NEVER THE ANSWER.
I really don’t know what to say my daughter is going through. She is 10 years old, and she has episodes where all of a sudden the walls are closing in on her, and she feels very “heavy” and her skin feels (in her words) like bricks. I touched her hand to show her that my hands are ok and so are hers. She pulled back and said mine felt the same way and wouldn’t let me near her again. She is scared and crying when it happens–day or night time. She is so scared of it happening again and me not being there with her that she hasn’t left my side in days. Seriously, not even to the bathroom. I don’t know what to do. Has anyone else ever experienced this themselves or with their child? She also has recurring nightmares, which I believe is genetic because her dad always had (still has) nightmares.
Hi
I am 9 years old and I’ve tried everything music happy thoughts! What should I do?
Hello 9 year old, have you tried my other advice’s because those might help too.
Also try these:
go to bed earlier
-if it takes long time to fall asleep
it might help to go bed earlier,to
get more of sleep.
go to bed later (if possible)
even 30 minutes helps
-sometimes we are not sleepy enough when we
go to bed.
go outside, for at least 2 hours a day
-kids usually have lot of energy,it
helps to “burn” the extra energy away,
also getting fresh air helps too
and if possible go outside with
your parents.
do less what you do every day
what ever it is what you do the most.
don’t stress (worry) yourself about your sleeping problem,be brave and go to bed every night, try not think about falling asleep,
just let it happen.
have this thought every day:
no matter what,i will always
fall asleep, no matter how long it will
take, ive always woken up every morning.
I HOPE THESE HELPED YOU AND I HOPE
YOU WILL GET RID OF YOUR SLEEPING PROBLEM.
My son has had nightmares/tremmers since he was 1 hes 11 now and every year they get worse he will wake up screaming walking around in terror but he will speek to me and sometimes remembers and sometimes he doesnt, he sometimes wont even go to sleep he says his hands r growing or feel heavy like bricks like another ladys daughter i readI have no clue what to do he is now at the point where he said he wants to die cause he hates the feeling and the things he sees he sees things and he hasnt even got to sleep !!this cant b normal for a happy go lucky kid!
Um stupid question: have you ever taken your
son to a doctor? 10 yrs?…
Now i’m far from expert,but my common sense;
what you described, sounds like sleep myoclonus (commonly known as night tremors)
go to ehow.com and search night tremors.
But probably not, i dunno,
it really doesn’t fit your kids description
like i said I AM NOT EXPERT.
need more info,to make more “guesses”.
—
Personally i never had any tremors
when i was a kid,but from like 5 to 12
i had seriously messed up,horrible
nightmares almost every night,
kinds what would make almost every adult crazy.
i too screamed,yelled,cried.
(never walked around though)
i never talked about my dreams
to anyone, however my mom was there to hold
me every time.
I also saw ghosts, monsters, etc. in my room
(and elsewhere in the dark,in my home,
and sometimes outside(outdoors) too)
at one point (addition to all i was
bullied in school) i was so scared to go
to bed, because of all the horror, and get up
because all the horror in school.
The thing is, it really didn’t bother me
as a kid,(well sort of,obviously it had to in someway) even all the torment in school
and all the nightmares,i was a happy
kid,who spent most of his time
outside playing (with brother&sister and friends),building stuff from
LEGO’s,then later playing
video games,watching TV etc.
(it was the night time what was scary and troubling).
At one point it all just stopped
nightmares,bullying,all,i still do remember
(probably not everything, but most of it
i think),but nothing of that time haunts
me today,i’m “normal” happy 32 year old man,
well as normal as one can be 🙂 .
PS. music helped me.
My 10 YEARS OLD DOUGHTER is having the same problem. I found IT very helpful to put her a sleep with sleep hynosis. You can JUST OPEN IT ON YOU TUBE and let her listen to it by following the directions…. Very very helpful but it is not over yet…. Good luck…
My 9 year old son also has been suffering from nightmares and constant fear of various things. He thinks that he is seeing things. I would like to offer some advice from my own experience. These kids need complete support and we as parents need to think outside of the box. I find that talking to him about these fears and what it is he is afraid will happen has helped him and me to understand better what he is feeling. Here are a few things that I have done, which I have seen some results with:
1. Together, him and I made a dream bottle. He added the herbs – lavender, to help him sleep; thyme, to promote restful sleep and decrease nightmares; and rosemary, to drive away nightmares, ensure good sleep and protect the sleeper from harm. As he put the herbs into the bottle he recited “i wish i may, i wish i might have good dreams everynight”
2. Burn sage and walk through the bedroom and house. Tell your child this wards off malevolent forces. It might sound crazy, but kids need to feel like there is a solution or something that can be tried. My son was excited to do all of these things!
3. Hang a dream catcher over their bed and a talisman in the window and doorways.
4. Have a pet sleep in their room, tell them that the animal is their protector.
5. Exercise and diet, do an activity with your child, burn off alot of energy, this helps lower stress levels. Many deficiencies contribute to depression and anxiety. Chamomile tea and sleepytime tea work wonders after dinner.
6. Counseling, a professional may be needed. I don’t advocate medicating children, but a child can definitely benefit from talking to the right counselor
If I can think of anything else I will add it! We are the ones to make our children secure.
Please be open to these ideas, do research, the mind is a powerful thing, if you become proactive and help your child to fight this, they will be able to live the happy life they deserve.
Hello, I’m 12 years old. Almost every night, I wake up around 2am. And then I get really scared, cuz I’m the only one awake. I know that nobody is actually in my house, but my fear gets the better of me. I’m afraid to leave my room, to turn away, to close my eyes, and to go to sleep. I’ve tried meditation, and I’ve tried steps for curing this on the Internet, but nothing is working. Today, I woke up at 2am, it’s now 4:41am. I go to a high school, and my high school starts at 8am. Which is very early for me. And sometimes, I have to be there at 6:50am for basketball practice. This is controlling my life. I can’t control my fear. No matter what I think about, nothing helps. I’m begging, please give advice! ð£

and i can never sleep i go to sleep around 4 and wake up at 5 or 4:30 or 6
-10 year old
too afraid to sleep?,yeah i had that
same problem when i was a kid.
I was about 6 or 7 my big sister and big brother watched horror movies and
they used to watch me over too,
when our parents were both working,
so those movies gave me
horrible nightmares.
I talked to my mom and told what was going on
how i saw nightmares and was too afraid
to sleep and even though they didn’t stop
watching those movies straight away,
in a week or so thankfully they did stop 🙂
now did my nightmares stop?,not straight away, but eventually they did and then i was able to sleep again 🙂 .
just be brave and go to sleep, dont let
the nightmares beat you,you beat them 🙂 .
if your children are having these problems you need to get help immediately. I am NINETEEN years old, yes 19, and I still have some of these problems that your TEN year olds are having. I am scared to see “faces.” I stay up until 6 AM every “night” and I can’t sleep until the sun rises. Get help for the sake of your children.
Tell her if your scared from know on you can sleep on the couch!
I have also been through that but I made my daughter feel safe by giving her audible books to listen to. they distracted her and I just turned them of when she fell asleep.
You should first recommend to a doc if he gives her tablets give her if it doesn’t work never take her to a mental hospital it will never work you all will be taking a wrong step. It may happen that she is really seeing a ghost(I AM SERIOUS) take her to church, mosque etc in which ever religion you are in. This the only step left. Take help from some movies that what to they do to cure that problem. I suggest you see ‘The Possession’ it will give you the answer
My son always had terrible nightmares every night,so he barely sleeps at night because he is scared to experience those nightmares all over again. This went on for months, until i finally found help through a priestess, she gave me an item which worked like a charm and now my little boy can finally go to bed every night and wake up every morning smiling,it was such a miracle. You can reach her on priestessarshavin@outlook.com
this mite help you sould take her to a sicoijest or hold up strange pichures and let her tell you what she sees and if that doesn’t help mabey she is seeing ghost that no one else can see.
Sometimes when I play on my computer I can’t fall asleep so I get really worried and I start to think of all of my old night made like “One Night at Flumpty’s” ugh that game is scary and then I’m afriad to sleep because of how scary it is and i start to cry but sometimes only when I type school work nothing happens ……..WHY?…….And…….HELP!
I’m 13 years old, I know it sad but for some reason I just can’t go to sleep. I try everything, I pray, I drink water, I even try sleep standing up. But I can’t go to sleep without he comfort someone beside me. Like tonight, tomorrow I’m going to a camp but I can’t go to sleep and its 2 in the morning.. If anyone can help me with this trauma, please tell me I would love to get rid of it
Hi I’m 13 years old and o also have total trouble sleeping. When I was little sure I was afraid of the dark but when I got older o thought I had gotten over it. But I didn’t. I always try and go to sleep bit I end up not going to sleep or just like waking up at 2 am like today and not going back to sleep. I just can’t go to sleep without someone else close to me, like comfort or someone there, you know? But I’m old enough to know that someone is not always going to be there. But I’m 13 now and I still haven’t gotten over this horrible annoying fear. If anyone has any ideas, plz tell me I would totally appreciate them.
A bad sleeper, Alexis
I’m 14 years old and have been having nightmares every night for the past couple months. I finally fall asleep at sunrise and wake up at noon I feel absolutely exhausted every day. I am 11 and I suffer from this. It is scary. You feel uncomfortable. I feel scared. It is mostly caused by anxiety and by watching scary shows at night or even day. So this is what you are wondering what it feels like. Well, I just told you.

I used to be able to fall asleep very easily and know I’m afraid that when i close my eyes something will just come and attack me. I just cant sleep in my room with out my brother, mom, or a family member….. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This book was great to help my 7 year old manager bedtime fears. It is short, funny, and very compassionate. The illustrations are colorful and make this an entertaining read. It is a book for parents and children to read and discuss together.

Hi I am 10 years old and recently I watched the women in black at a sleep over at my friend’s house ever since I will not go to sleep at night because I always see faces in the corner of my eye. I try to hide under my blanket but I get to hot so I come out to breathe. Then I see something staring at me! Even right now as I am writing this I see people in the room.when I look at my parents at night they look different.
I am Jamie’s mum and have tried to explain that although it feels really scarey and real to him, it isn’t real and there is nothing physically there to be afraid of. But he experiences very real physical symptoms of anxiety and is really stressed.
He wants to sleep on the couch every night and though this would help in the short term i’m concerned it will just reinforce his fears and create a more avoidant behaviour longer term. It’s so tough though because he is my little boy and I love him so much.
I don’t know what’s happend but I can hardly sleep, it stemd frkm the fact Ive always natrully lucid dreamed (where u know ur in a dream) is really creepy and then I developed tintilus (something lime that) which is where u hear buzzing noise in ear and can’t sleep an I was so scared cos of both of them I hallucinated and now wayyy too scared to sleep. Also the whole thing of saying “it isn’t real” does not work (for me anyway) we know thst still scared thoug

I am 13 I can’t sleep I usually have a TV on but I need an alternitave as every time I close my eyes I see a dark tall unrecognisable figure standing next to my bed watching me and he only disappears at 4-5 am it’s making me angry and sad pls I need advice
I’m too scared to sleep too! The blackness is overwhelming. I’ve never been a wimp but I’m scared now. Really scared. I’ve told my mum and dad but they say it’s just temporary I just have to close my eyes. It’s not that easy! If this carries on I’m going to have to ask for sleep therapy for Christmas!
I’m 12, almost 13 and I have the same problem. I either can’t fall asleep and end up hearing a noise or wake up in the middle of the night from a nightmare. I shake, I sweat and it’s hard to breath until I have someone with me. Sometimes I wake up my parents but I don’t more often now because I feel bad. I always think someone’s going to break in or something like that. My parents comfort me at night. But in the morning, tell me how ridiculous I am being almost a teenager and scared of this stuff. It’s comforting to know that a lot of other people my age go through this. I usually have hockey and school and stuff like that so I always need to be well rested but that usually never happens. I have had anxiety before Andy parents are thinking of taking me to a physiatrist but I don’t want to go. If you have any suggestions please tell me. Thank you

I’m nearly 13 and I’m too scared to sleep. I always think something’s there when I turn off the light. I look in the wardrobe and check under my bed but I’m still scared. I hate being upstairs alone. Please help.
I have a hard time trusting internet, but.if u kids posting are 4real,as a mom,I am so sorry. My kids don’t sleep either.I know it’s so hard, but really practice day & night, repeat – I’m Ok,it’s ok,everything’s OK.you will be ok.the biggest thing that helps myself & kids is thinking of your favorite things, then aftr u’ve said the ok stuff, take 3 big breaths (make sure u blow all air ou,that’s biggest mistake of deep breaths),then, make a story of your favorite things or memories.dont let the bad sneak in.Focus on your story.if bad sneaks in,do your3breaths in& (all the way out)it takes lotsa practice,It WILL get better!xxx
Hi, Friends
My name is Tam Le, I have one daughter, Her name is Kristine she six years old, I lived with my mom house. Every day my mom yell my daughter alot, even me scare at my mom to hit her or kill her. My daughter love me, but, she scare my mom alot. Every night she go to sleep I have to sleep with her let her calm, sing her song or tell her stories about cinderella, or read her storie book she like. I can do any thing that let my daughter feeling safe. My idea was if your daughter can’t sleep at night, do all thing like read her favorite stoires, sing for her go to sleep, Or you go sleep with her. Most kids if they scare something they find some where to hide, or find some one she feel safe.
My daughter has been too scared to go to sleep although only because she can see images and people in her room. Normally the people look like there from a horror movie. She has a night light and she can hear me through the walls.
I’m 11 and I can shut my eyes neither do get nightmares but I just can’t get to sleep
my 4 year old daughter has been having problems sleep ing since she was born worst as she gets older and now it’s her 3 year old brother what to do.
I am 10 years old. I have the same problem. Your child could be scared of something she sees on the internet. Make sure she doesn’t see anything scary and check her browsing history for anything that could give her nightmares. Give her big rewards for sleeping by herself. If you have a pet, give her the pet to sleep with. Tell her it will keep her safe. I just sleep under the covers because my parents tell be they are made of steel and anyone who is a liar or is evil/scary cant touch them. (this might work with her because it works with me) Let her realize that she is safe and stay close to her. You can try white noise or the sound of a rocking boat. Try lullaby music too. Give her warm milk before bed. If she doesn’t like milk/lactose intolerant, Just put a blanket in your dryer for a few minutes and it will be warm. Even if you are busy stay by her for the first few nights. It will start getting easier for her and she will start falling asleep faster. After a while she will start falling asleep by herself. expect her to try and sleep with you maybe once or twice a week. try to sit beside her bed and wait for her to fall asleep. DO NOT TEXT OR BE ON ANY ELECTRONICS WHILE BY HER! I hate it when my parents do that and it keeps me from falling asleep! I am starting to sleep in my own bed. If i do sleep in my own bed for two weeks I will get the kitten that I have always wanted! I wish you luck! -Clover
I have the same problem. I can not get to sleep! I am 10 years old and can not get to sleep. Please help me.
well you should really listen to me…I am a 10 year old girl and i am also scared to fall asleep,i have got better after a month so yeah this might take some time, but what got me better was to .drink tea,but DOT NOT give her tea with caffien in it
.give her a book that she likes NOT A SCARY BOOK
.let her draw or if your lucky she might draw what she is scared of
.let her listen to happy non creepy music
.let her mom (sorry i she dosen’t have one) talk to her and get her comforbull
.if none work dont do any thing and she might tell you
hope this worked coming from another 10 year old girl
She might be afraid to be alone or maybe she is afraid that someone break into her room and there will be no one right there to protect her.
I know somebody that is to afraid to sleep in their downstairs basement by them selves. They won’t say anything. They wait for their father to go down their and watch tv with them. I don’t know if it’s because of what their family watches or if they are afraid of someone breaking in. If somebody has a solution plz comment. Thx!

I’m 15 years old. Everything started when i was about 12. I could never shut my eyes at night. I was scared someone was there. I struggled for 3 years with that. A few weeks after my 15th bithday I experienced sleep paralysis. It was horrifying. I saw 2 black figures. One on my side and one above me. I tried my best to call for someone. I heard talking. I read it was from what i was thinking about. But I struggled with sleeping in general after that. That was Jan. When sleep paralysis took place. Finally in September it was all getting better. I could sleep alone again. I did look around and kept opening my eyes before bed but i could sleep. But on October 24th i lost my mom. And now I’m terrified to sleep. I’m terrified of sleeping at any hosue. Especially my own. Does anyone have any adivce? I really need sleep. I can’t go to sleep til 7 in the morning unless someone is right there with me until i fall asleep. Please help.
I’m 9 and I’m posting here. Lelelelelel

My son is 9. about 3 months ago he had a nightmare that he was laying in our bed and he was awake and we were asleep. Then the creature from 5 nights at Freddy’s (anamatronic chicken) murdered us all. Now he refuses to go to asleep without somebody looking at him. When he falls asleep, he sleeps for 3 hours until he is up screaming out daddy or mommy. He then pleads that someone stay awake with him. If you even drift to sleep a little. He cries out your name. If you to to leave, he just gets out of bed and follows you. It has been 3 months since we have slept more than 3 hours. We have two other boys that are 2 and 6. we have rationalized with him. We have drawn pictures with him. We have told him how much this affects his family. Tried rewards. Nothing has worked. He is in therapy now and it hasn’t worked (it’s early on). If anyone is having a similar experience and has corrected it. Please comment. I don’t want to medicate him, but am worried about his mother and brothers.
Sleep paralysis…. She is somehow making contaxt with the underworld. Google it.. Shes had experience with sleep problems…. Take her to the docter. Possibly even an exorcist. I wish u nest of luck.
hi this is aksara chowdary.from past 2 months im getting same dream & im facing a dream like some one holding my throat. & im facing breating problems the worst thing because of nightmare im shouting in sleep only. all my freinds are laughing. they did n’t understand me can u tell what is problem how to face this. before also i have habit like speaking in sleep. present im staying far to my parents.most of the times im calling my mom in sleep before present it is difficult.
Ok, I admit, it’s 100% my fault, but…. I watched too many scary movies. First, I watched a trailer for Sinister 2. Yea, I was scared for a while. After that I thought I was fine, so then I watched Jeepers Creepers. I heard growling outside of my bed that night. It didn’t sound like my dogs. Then sniffing. Sniffing like the creeper. Then finally, I healed from that and watched the full movie of The Babadook. Big mistake. After that, I was so afraid to sleep. I finally did at about 12:00, then I woke up at like 3:00, and the hallway light was off, and I swear I saw the Babadook standing outside my door. I was terrified. I was crying so hard, and I started screaming for my mom. “MOM!!!!!” “MOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!!” She turned on the hallway light and told me I can sleep in the living room, or my brother’s room, or in my room. I can’t sleep in the living room, it’s just creepy in there. I can’t sleep in my brother’s room, he turns off the light. I sat in my bed, shaking so hard and crying. I was so scared. I turned on all my lights, walked around my room and went to the bathroom like every five minutes, and finally I fell asleep. For about twenty minutes. I kept falling asleep and waking up, and finally, I gave in. I stayed up until 6:00, which was when I’m allowed to get up. I’m extremely tired but very afraid to sleep. I have tried pretty much everything. I am worried I’m going to fall asleep in class. I need help. -Maya
Ask her is the reason about the shadow man i didnt wont to go to sleep lastnight i stayed up to 6:00

this book helps change the mood of the child before bedtime. It helps them feel less anxious, protected and more relaxed to fall asleep. worked for my son! https://www.etsy.com/listing/256124466/bad-dreams-begone-an-empowering?ref=shop_home_feat_4
It’s good to know other people have this. I’m 19yrs old and I’ve had this problem most of my life, being completely pretrified to fall asleep. It’s good that your trying to find help for your daughter. My mother isn’t very understanding, especially when I’m still having only 1-3hrs of sleep a night. She has never experienced it so she doesn’t understand. She tells me I’m being rediculous but I am in so much fear I can’t cope. Right now, for example, its 4:25am and I just woke up (finally) about 20minutes ago from digging my way out of a terrifying episode of sleep paralysis. I’ve learnt, for when this happens, to just squeese my eyes closed, and take deep, slow breaths, trying to stay calm. Either you’ll wake up into a dream, where usually you can control it and wake yourself up / recover from the terror by imagining a calming situation (only with this you feel like youve been dreaming for a long time, when you actually only get like 20minutes sleep before you wake up, deeming it a complete waste of time but anyway). Or you end up waking up, even still being unsure whether or not youre dreaming. I hate it so much and it ruins my life really. It has gotten very much worse as I have aged. I recommend if any parent has noticed that their child cannot sleep or is saying that theyre scared; theyre trying to communicate their problems to you!! Please don’t ignore them just because youve never believed in these night terrors. My mother stopped caring after I became a teenager because I should know better since I’m more mature but I still have trouble sleeping even to this day, and I’ve just given up talking to her because she doesnt want to be woken up. I wish there was a drug for this, maybe I should see a doctor but I dont want to pay… please help if anyone has an idea of how to stop your body paralysis before your mind is asleep, because its killin me 🙁 ~Katie
Okay so, I am 12 years old and ever since I was little I have been completly SCARED to sleep. I try so hard but I just can’t. My parents think I stay up all night on purpose and I get in trouble for it a lot. But when I try to sleep I feel like something is going to kill me or attack me, and I am really scared of the dark. So every night I lay in my bed with all the lights on and the tv turned up and I don’t sleep at allð I have school in the mornings and this doesn’t make it any better. My mom has Insomnia bad… Could that be what is wrong with me? I just need help. I can’t keep getting depressed over this. It’s ruining my lifeð«ð¤ðð«

I’m at 10 year old. I was just going through the web when I saw a scary picture… I researched about the picture (since it was a creepy pasta) and now I’m scared… I kept looking through the web for something to help but nothing does. Now I feel like that creepy picture is everywhere. Okay, I’ll admit it, it was a scary sponge-bob bootleg picture thing, if you look it up you’ll understand it but I advise you don’t stare the image or look at the videos.
So, I feel like that creepy sponge-bob is everywhere… with bloodshot eyes staring. Any help would be useful 🙂 thanks!
Hello, Scared. I believe you are over your fear now, but if not, I hope you see this!
Since you saw that scary image, try to look at something you like, or try to look at “try not to laugh” videos. They usually help me, but if they don’t help you, try and ask a parent. If you DON’T want your parents to know you were looking at that (I wouldn’t!) then I’d ask a older brother or sister if I had one. If nothing helps, try and watch TV, or play a few games. Try to clear your mind of those scary pictures/stories. I hoped my comment helped!
I can’t believe I actually did it
Dear poor 10 years old.
I just read your post.I wish i could be there to pray with you. Myself i can not sleep in the night or i wake up at late night again and can not find sleep.but with 10 years it is definitively not good. Thats why i pray with you.Heavenly father i thank you for this young person and i ask you in the name of Yeshua to give her deep sleep. May you give her a very deep and good sleep. You know what about she is scared and give her peace. Amen.
Listen Yeshua dy on the cross for you so bring him all you fears. Ask Yeshua to come in your heart so he can give you the peace you deserve. He loves you. And listen also in youtube to Joseph Prince.God bless you. lisa
My 9 year old daughter managed to download five nights at Freddy’s on her tablet without needing my password 3 days ago. I found out within a few hours and questioned the kids, then deleted it as my daughter said it was scary. She has been terrified since and won’t go anywhere in the house alone. She also insists on an adult sleeping with her in her bed every night since and struggles to sleep. She wakes regularly and shouts “mummy I’m scared”
I’m really worried this is going to affect her for a long time and seeing you post has confirmed this. Let’s hope we find a way to help out children.
I’ve posted various reviews about this game warning parents. I’ve never played it and don’t want to from what I’ve read. I’m just so cross that she managed to download it 🙁
Reading thur some of this comments and wonder if any one is going thur the same
My daughter is 11 and can not sleep in her bedroom who she shares with her 2 sisters if her room is a mess or even slightly untidy she wakes up and makes bed before leaving the house for school then once she is back she spends her evening tidying it or changing it around she will get flash spray and clean the tops of her chest of draws make her bed perfectly and hates it if there is a crease in the bedding it’s got so bad that she don’t want her sisters in the room until it’s bed time as she can’t stand any mess in there the last 3 days running she has changed her bedding every day I spoke with the doctor in the phone who told me it could be anxicity also if I come up begins my daughter when she is not expecting it she jumps as if iv scared her …….. Also on another note after reading some comments on here about sleep paralysis I myself experienced this last night twice and WOW I have never felt so scared how people actually put up with this thur out there life growing up must be so scary it really was a horrifying experience one I don’t ever want to feel again
I never found a solution being a young kid. I am older now I figure if you read to your kids and maybe putting on some really soft music it might help relax her and she might go to sleep. I do not know though it is just a suggestion!!!
I’m only 11 and I get scared a lot it always helps when my mum invites me over to the couch and we have a good cuddle, she talks to me about why the fear couldn’t come real and then tucks me into bed reassuring me that my bed is a safe place.
My 11 year old daughter is terrified of tornados she hardly ever sleeps in her room only downstairs.

Hola, i am thirteen years old girl and have been struggling with night time all my life. As a baby I had night terrors, and wouldn’t sleep. When I was seven I slept walked and often woke up in different places around the house. At thirteen I am currently on a three day, no sleep streak. I go to bed at twelve, and wake up around two can’t fall back asleep. I am a very anxious person in general, I can’t do anything with out taking proper precautions. I am wide awake all the time, fearing rape or murder or kidnapping. I am the oldest of three and live in a very safe place, but I am never at peace, during the dark hours.
Recently, I have realized that not everyone sleeps like me, nights are miserable for me. I hate them. I haven’t tried to get professional help, I thought this was normal only a year ago. I talk to my parents. They don’t get it. As the oldest I should be the easiest, right? But all I do is wear them out. I fear that I might have anxiety, but I don’t suffer from frequent nightmares. I am terrified what the lack of sleep will do to me, when I start school again. PLEASE HELP ME. :*(
Especially all of the KIDS posting! Stop getting online late at night! Stop using screens by 9pm. Tell you parents and YOUR DOCTOR that you have sleep issues. SCREENS MAKE THIS WORSE!!!!!!!!!
These patterns will last you whole life if you don’t fix them. I can’t believe how many little kids are coming to the internet with their insomnia looking for some trick. GET REAL HELP. Not advice columns. Sleep is critical for EVERYTHING you need to do.
My daughter is 31 months. Sometimes she scared when slee at night. She cannot know any body who is he/she. She is very scared so please tell me about this. And how to solve it..
I am a male that is 14 so over the years I’ve learned a little bit about my problem and side effects that come with it. I am scared to sleep (even in daytime) in a room without someone in it, even right now I’m trying to sleep. I’m scared that something paranormal will pop up when I close my eyes and this problem has been affecting me my whole life. It usually leads to sleep deprivation and for me this is terrible because it has manifested into me getting headaches when I wake up or during the day when I get sleepy. There is no way to stop the pain other than to wait it out. Ive visited doctors and they thought my headaches were from stress or other stuff, but if anyone has this problem I wish you the best of luck in fixing it.
P.S I’ve tried this one thing once and it seemed to work: just close your eyes and don’t think of anything and concentrate on the darkness you eyelids create and eventually you’ll wake up and realize you fell asleep. Good Luck!
I’m 12 years old and its 1 in the morning. My mother has her boyfriend sleeping over and they are in her room sleeping. None of my siblings are home. I absolutely can not sleep. I’m terrified to sleep alone. I called my mom out after five minutes of persuading to get her up. She wouldn’t help me. She said keep the light on you’ll fall asleep eventually. I’m really scared to sleep and I have nothing else to do. Please help.
Hi I’m 12 years old and I have insomnia. I’m too scared to fall asleep, and today, I took one step into my bathroom and stepped on a big bug, BAREFOOT. Now I’m scared to sleep because I’m afraid of the bugs. They are big and I think they come from the bathroom sink. I used to have this problem earlier this year, but Mom dumped bleach down the drain, and then they were gone. But now they’re back, and I can’t sleep. Please help!

I am so sorry to hear that many of you young children are battling with anxiety and insomnia. This is the time when you should never enjoying your life, not worrying about not sleeping, but I do understand because I have a 12 year old granddaughter who has anxiety about sleeping as well. She feels she is going to choke when it’s bedtime and sits up for hours burping and spitting. I generally pray over her and get her to repeat the 23rd Psalm. I recommend you kids do the same. Get your Bible or Google the 23rd Psalm and pray it over your life every morning and every night. The Lord he is your Shepherd and his desire is thst you are whole, free, and happy. I pray for each of you right now that God will heal you from the spirit of fear, because that spirit is not of God. Be blessed.

I’m reading all of your stories and thinking to myself that having a young child with sleep problems is so much more common than mine.
My daughter has just turned 16, She is doing amazingly well at school, is in the air cadets and her confidence has grown immensely over the last few years.
But, night times are a night mare, I dread it as I am not able to go to bed until she falls to sleep, She gets anxious and distressed when she can’t get to sleep, constantly shouting me to make sure I’m still awake. There was a time where she would bang her head against her wall with frustration, say she wanted to die.
I’ve spent hours sitting with her until I’m ready to collapse, staying calm through the anger from her, the tears and the sobbing. She has no idea why she’s like it, we are very close and she talks to me about everything and it’s as if she had to tell me every little detail of everything. I feel lucky that she can talk to me.
I’m just worried about her/us. I’m shattered every day at work, I’m not well myself and I’m at my wits end. I feel like people will think it stupid because she’s 16. A loving kind and beautiful girl who is struggling and I don’t know what else I can do.
I’m 15 and I have had issues with my sleep for some time now it all started years ago when my mums car was broken into for about a year afterwards I would panic each night thinking someone was breaking into the house I would go into my mums room and wake her up as I thought someone had broken on, each night I would have the same worry even though I was told time and time again and knew that it was just the radiatiors turning off. For the past year or two I have started to struggle sleeping again, I’m nearly 16 and don’t want to speak to my mum about it but I panic and think someone is outside of my house trying to break in each night I can’t get to sleep and have to watch my bedroom door and switch a light on. I don’t know what to do but I am always tired and struggle to stay awake during the day. I usually shake and have difficulties breathing and even the slightest noise makes me scared, I have even started to feel nervous and panic in Everyday situations like passing someone in the street. If anyone has any advice that would be really helpful. Thank you
I myself am ten years old and am struggling to get to sleep. Sometimes i hear noises or i see shadows or i just imagine that monstes are around me. To get through it, I think of the things i love. I love dragons, so I imagine them beating up and/or scaring the “monsters” away. Maybe you could try that.
Hi I’m 11 years old and I can’t sleep right now! This has been happening along time and I usually fall asleep 12:00am-1:00 am please help my mum gets so mad at me if I wake her up and i cry so hard
We found the book “Braving Bedtime” and it ended our nighttime woes. Our 3 & 4 yr olds were having bad dreams, scared of the dark… all the usual – and this book helped them take the scary things and make them silly. Our kids are now 6 & 7 and our son said he used it last week when he had a bad dream – even though we haven’t read it in months. So grateful for that book!
This makes me feel better bc I thought I was alone. I know I am young but ppl my age try and act all cool and “old” ð (I know right) so no one else my age seems to have this problem, so now I know that I am not the only one my age, it seems to be pretty normal from like 9-12 year olds. Some nights I will be fine, but randomly I just won’t be able to sleep at all, bc I heard a sound or something and freak out. Lately I have been unable to sleep, and making it late to school or at the last second. I have looked up advice and all it is is the same old stuff, nothing new. I have been listening to music, playing sounds on a white noise app, and listened to meditation apps but none of that helps. I have told myself there is nothing to be afraid of, I will wake up safely tomorrow, like always, and that works sometimes. Usually I’ll end up on my phone, tho I know it’s unhealthy. All I want is some freakin sleep!
