Question: My son will be 10 in 3 months and has not slept through the night for 2 years.
2.5 years ago, we moved house, suburb and schools. When he arrived at the new school, the school bully found him and has picked on him since. We have talked to the school, DET and police…but as the bully is under 10 (!!) they can’t really do much and a whole other range of excuses. We were moving him to another school, but found out the bully is moving in 1 month, and my son is very happy. For the last 2 years, he has been scared to walk through the house on his own (day or night) and wakes up at approx 4am each day. He usually runs into our room upset saying he is scared or he sneals in and slides into bed with us.Trying to get him back to bed/sleep is an hour long argument. We have tried sleeping with him, him sleeping with us, showing him there is nothing scary in the house, had psychologist’s visits, leave about 5 lights on in the night, sedation medicine…..now our next step is to see a psychiatrist, but the waiting list is 4 months. He is irritable, unable to concentrate in school, dance, judo and has problems making friends. Unsure what to do, hoping someone has advice before my appointment in 4 months.
