Question: I cannot begin to tell you how upset it makes me that every single article I read on sleep apnea always put all the emphasis on snoring with sleep apnea. This is simply just not true and why I personally went 15 years without being diagnosed with sleep apnea.
I am a 33 year old female, 125 lbs, 5’7″ who has NEVER snored a day in my life yet has an average of 16 apneas per hour. The anatomy of my small mouth and throat is the reason. Debilitaing fatigue was the number one symptom. Doctors need to wake up and realize this. There are hundreds more out there like me. They have seen specialist after specialist and are being diagnosed with everything from: depression, CFS, postpartum depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia, and the list goes on. These are a few of the diagnoses I, too was labeled with before finally receiving a correct diagnosis. Please get the sterotypical “look” of sleep apnea out of your minds and so many others like myself may get the diagnosis and help they desperately need. Sleep apnea is not a one-size fits all disorder. You do NOT have to be a middle-aged, overweight, snoring, male to have severe sleep apnea!!!!
