Question: I recently got with this guy. He has a hard time sleeping with me because he says that I talk all night. And it’s not always nice, that I threaten him. He’s tried to wake me up and I’ve taken swings at him. If that wasn’t crazy enough we had sex and I don’t remember any of it except the end. I thought he had forced his self on me. Come to find out I was the one who initiated the whole thing. Is that possible? I know it’s not the first time, but its been a long time since the previous incident with sex occurred. How can I prevent this from happening/ please advise me of my options.

Answer: Hey Rachelle, thanks for writing in. There’s a condition that’s called sexsomnia, or sleep sex, that’s a bit like sleepwalking involving sexual activities. As with sleepwalking, when one has an episode of sleep sex he or she rarely remembers all of it. Because of this, it can sometimes lead to notions that there was forced action involved, like you describe your first impression was.Another point of interest for you may be the fact that people with a history of sleep talking or sleepwalking are more likely to experience episodes of sleep sex. In addition, things like alcohol consumption, sleep deprivation, or any other sleep disorder or external stimuli that disrupts your sleep can contribute to triggering these episodes. So controlling those factors, if you don’t already, may help you avoid experiencing any more.I can’t say with absolute certainty that this is exactly what you experienced, but it sounds relevant to what you have described and I wanted to make sure you were aware of it. Here’s also a link to the Wikipedia page for sleep sex with more information. My best wishes to you. Feel free to tell me what you think using the “Post Comments” link below.

Thanks for your question and good luck,
Kevin
