Question: I have had RBD for a few years but I thought everyone had these episodes so I never payed attention to it. It wasn’t until after I started sleeping at my girlfriends at night that she asked why I kick and toss and move so much.
She was really frustrated that she could not sleep a full night without being woken up. I just said I usually wake up from dreams acting them out and she was shocked at this. So was I, I thought it was normal. Ended up my RBD got worse and I was punching and kicking at least once a week. She was getting bruises and afraid I might really hurt her.I tried to sleep on the far edge of the bed but that didn’t help all the way, one night I woke up from her screaming, I guess I punched her right in the face and knocked a tooth out. That’s when she kicked me out and never slept in the same bed again. I can’t blame her, but I wish there was a better way to avoid these types of scenarios. Ii started sleeping at home again and at least once a week I’ll kick or punch the wall or fly off the bed and hit the night stand. I never thought much of it but now that I have been learning about it I’m hoping I can do something and be able to spend more time with my girlfriend without her worrying about being physically hurt at night.
