Question: Hello. I am 17 years old. Sleep deprivation isn’t my choice, but I experience it every day. During the day I almost always feel tired. Motivation rarely happens to me, I’m always hungry (I eat every hour but I’m skinny-thank you metabolism), I find it difficult to focus on long tasks.
Sleeping is difficult. I’ve tried several non-addictive sleeping pills but so far nothing works. It usually takes me AT LEAST 1.5 hours to fall asleep. My mind doesn’t wonder or anything, I just can’t fall asleep. I’ll lay in my bed and toss and turn all night sometimes. I know that I don’t fall asleep because I have a clock beside my bed and I check the time (which goes by so slowly.A lot of people have told me that I have insomnia due to stress. They’re probably right. I guess you could say that I’ve gotten used to not getting much sleep. Although normally I feel like a normal person with a normal sleep-schedule emotionally, there are times where it’s obvious that I’m not. Depression factors in sometimes, and crazy mood swings. I can be super happy and then one little comment that normally wouldn’t bother me will put me in a state of rage.Counseling has never worked for me. I’ve had counseling for anger issues and depression. Another thing is that I forget things very easily. I did some research and learned that this can be caused by lack of sleep. Apparently lack of sleep ages you. It makes you experience things that generally happen to older people.I also learned that people who have sleep deprivation experience life in a more negative and are prone to having extreme emotions. If this describes you then you’re probably sleep deprived. Also if you have any questions/comment/concerns please let me know.
