Question: I am a 34 year old female and my attacks started the night I gave birth to my oldest son 15 years ago. That night I was holding my new baby actually snuggling him in the bed when suddenly my body became paralyzed and something I could not see grabbed my feet and tried to pull me under the bed!
I was terrified, could not move or scream! I thought I had some kind of crazy psychotic episode, which I never had before, and was afraid if I told anyone they would think I was crazy and want to take my baby. It was so very real. It continued about once a week, the same episode every time, and once it actually even got me to the floor and then it was over!It stopped for a few years and I would have an episode every few months with the same story line attached. Everywhere I moved to it followed me believing it was a spirit.I am always completely awake when it happens!! It starts with me feeling like someone that I can not see is watching me, then I become paralyzed, then comes the attack of it grabbing my feet and trying to pull me under the bed. It terrified me!!!!About 2 years ago it changed. It would sit down on the bed with me, while I was fully awake and my back was always to it, then it would grab my arm and start pulling me!! I had enough. I was afraid more than I could ever describe, I could no longer sleep in my room thinking it would not happen if I was on my couch, and it never did. But my husband was not happy with this so I returned to my room. One night I was lying in the bed attempting to go to sleep when I had the feeling it was there, and then the paralysis began and I said no you don’t!!! I fought the paralysis and after a moment won! That was the beginning of my freedom! I could feel it happening and though my body wants to give in I fight with everything I have and snap out of it. It went away for a few months and every once in a while it tries to “get me.”I feel someone I can’t see watching me then the paralyzed feeling comes and I immediately say no no no no NO and fight from the inside out. No more being grabbed or paralyzed with fear holding me back. While it still happens occasionally it never completely takes over me and I don’t have the terrifying episode after I am paralyzed because I stop it before it gets that far. Thanks for listening and while it continues to try I continue to fight it.
