Question: I exercise in the morning on the treadmill. Am on the go around the house and property. I will go to bed around 11:30 p.m. at night, and at times do not get to sleep immediately. However, once I get to sleep, about an hour into a really deep sleep, I will jump out of bed screaming for my husband, who sleeps in the other room, as this is too much for him, and I can’t blame him.
I run for the bathroom window to get my breath in our ensuite. In my semi conscious state, I think I can’t breathe. My heart feels like it is jumping out of my chest. I never have bad dreams that bring this on. My doctor put me on Paxil some years ago, but I stopped taking them as sometimes they worked and sometime not. Last year, I insisted that my doctor sent me to a sleep disorder clinic. The appointment was made for August 18th 2011.Got to the hospital, and they prepared me with 18 wires taped to my body, head, chest and legs. Do you think I could get to sleep after all that stuff was attached to me. I don’t sleep well in a strange place the first night anyhow, and this was no different. I actually got 1-1/2 hours sleep that night, and that was around 4 a.m. They wake you up at 6 to get you out of there. Their prognosis was restless leg syndrome, however light not a bad thing, and that was it.For 5 months after leaving the clinic, I never had another night terror again. I was wondering if they might have injected me with an i.v. which I honestly can’t recall and if it had something in it to stop these night terrors.Mid January 2012, these night terrors have started all over again. Very frustrating indeed. The nurse in attendance at the sleep disorder clinic told me that I only have one shot at this clinic as it is the law. So where do I turn to now. I really need help. My cousin wants me to come to Nanaimo, B.C. this summer for a visit, and it is too embarrassing to explain this night terror situation to her. Can you suggest something for me to take. I read a lot about melatonin. What is your take on this and what mg. would I start with if this is your suggestion. Many thanks. Marlene
