Question: I am a 23 year old female with a fairly healthy lifestyle but have experienced sleep paralysis on and off for a few years now.
First time I can remember it happening to me was at the age of 18; I awoke in the middle of the night & couldn’t move, I was aware that there was an elderly, threatening woman in the corner of my bedroom. My heart was beating so fast and she got closer & closer until she was right over my face, I tried my hardest to move but couldn’t, eventually I woke up and like many people who are unaware of the existence of sleep paralysis, I thought it was some sort of supernatural experience.I experienced paralysis without hallucinations a few times since then but for the past few months I have had some intensely frightening visions, with an elevated heart rate.I awoke in the morning a few months ago, couldn’t move. There was a little boy stood next to the bed & a strange buzzing sound in my ear. The child was hitting my bed and each time he did this the buzzing became louder and hurt my ears and head.A few weeks after this I awoke to see an old fashioned man in a suit flickering around my head. Again, my heart was pounding in my chest and I thought I would vomit because I was so afraid.About two months ago I was on a holiday and woke up in the middle of the night, completely paralysed with a man hunched over the bed whispering really quickly in my ear, it was absolutely terrifying. This morning was my most recent experience. I woke up and there was a woman in my wardrobe throwing buttons at me (I know it sounds ridiculous but at the the time it is terrifying) and a loud ticking noise, like a clock. The noise got louder and louder and again, gave me a painful headache. The strange thing about my experience this morning was that I was trying to move my hand to my face, without success. I could feel the sensation of my face on my hand but could see that my arm hadn’t moved atall, like an out of body type experience.I sympathise with anyone who suffers from these experiences because despite knowing what it is, at the time you think it’s real. They are horrific. 🙁
