Question: Hi there!
I have had narcolepsy for approximately 18 years. I will try to make this short and to the point.I had suffered so much and succombed to narcolepsy. I was finally done being a victim. With my medical background, I scoured different texts in different modalities to learn different ways to help cope. This has truly helped me and I want to share in hopes that it may help you, too! Please discuss this with your physician before trying this. It is not intended as a substitute for medical advice. It is helpful information from one narcoleptic to another. All you have to do is try this for 3 weeks. If you slip up, start the 3 weeks all over again. (It take 21 days to form a new habit). At the end of 3 weeks you will probably want to stick with this and continue on the other recommendations. 1. Go gluten free for 3 weeks. (It was very hard for me but so incredibly worth it)2. Test yourself to see if sugary treats and sugary prepared foods makes you more sleepy. Here is how: shortly after you consume the sugary treat or foods (20-30 minutes after eating it) you will have a reaction or feel lower mood, more tired etc. This was more apparent to me after I was gluten free for 3 weeks because I was much more alert to notice.3. Eat protein when you get up and every 2-3 hours, especially with other food. It does not need to be a huge portion but enough to sustain your blood sugars. (12 almonds is a good amount when nothing else is eaten) This will cut down on the mindless-eating-to-stay-awake, as well. :)The difference was like this for me (just an example): Imagine seeing everything around you but not really having the time to notice the details. You go to the eye doctor and are given prescription glasses. Suddenly, you can read signs from far away. You notice colours more vividly and there are details on things you never noticed before. Every image you see has crisp lines. :)The longer you stick with this, the more you will notice the great changes. Again, please advise with your doctor, especially if you have other health or spiritual issues.I am so excited for you to try this! My life has changed so much. You owe it to yourself. You have nothing to lose (except the extra pounds from nibbling foods to stay awake). Haven’t you already lost enough?Best of health to you!
