Question: I am a 27 year old female who has been having night terrors since I was a teenager. As a young child I can remember waking up in the middle of the night thinking it was time to get ready for school and I would start getting ready before a family would inform me what time it actually was. As I got older though I started to dream about scarier things like bugs on the wall or in the bed, or I would wake up thinking someone was looking at me. These are dreams I am still having.
The strange thing is that I wake up in the middle of the night thinking it is real and often find myself stripping the bed because of the bugs in it or I am running through the house trying to get away from whatever is in my room.I remember each of these episodes. Sometimes my boyfriend wakes me and sometimes I wake myself. But when I come to my senses I find myself conscious, but I just believe these things are really happening to me.I will carry on full conversations about what is scaring me until someone convinces me otherwise. I wish I could find a way to make them stop. In my older years I have started to have a couple drinks before bed to help me sleep…but now I have no way of knowing if this is even helping anymore….
