Question: My daughter has been taking meds for seizures for 2 years. A new neurologist has suggested she may actually be experiencing sleep paralysis. However, in reading some of these stories, I do not see anyone mention not being able to speak coherently after coming out of it, which leads me to believe that she is having a seizure and not sleep paralysis. We have not had the money to spend on a sleep study in the hospital for a definite diagnosis of what is going on, so we are guessing. So my actual question is: Do people with sleep paralysis have trouble speaking when coming out of an episode?
It depends on how long the SP is but yes my speech is difficult to understand , very slowed as are other movements. I have chronic migraines as well to complicate the matter. And pseudo sz type shaking episodes – not epilepsy.
I have had episodes of sleep paralysis where I am fighting what is happening and I try my hardest to even move my tongue, which as soon as it it over causes me to speak gibberish. A garbled text that even surprises me when I hear it. The first time I heard it I almost questioned myself as if it had even happened. Then it happened again and I knew for sure the noise had come from me desperately trying to speak. Its strange because you are awake when this happens.
