Question: I’m 27 and have never experienced sleep paralysis, but last night I went to bed at an “early” time for me (9:30pm). Around 3am I perceived that I was awake, because my eyes were open and I could clearly see the doorway that connects my bedroom to the hallway in the nightlight. However, I couldn’t move or say anything.
Meanwhile, I heard a drilling noise coming from the living room area of my apartment, and I immediately began to panic as I perceived this as either an intruder trying to break in or someone already in my apartment drilling something. I was powerless to get up and investigate or perhaps defend myself and I became more and more frightened. After a few seconds of this, a friend of mine walked through my bedroom door, spoke to me, then disappeared into thin air. A few seconds later the drilling noise stopped and I was able to sit up in bed, scared beyond belief.I immediately grabbed my phone and pulled up some info about sleep paralysis because I had heard of it before and thought that’s what might have happened, and upon doing some reading it calmed me down to know that is more than likely what I experienced.I was able to go back to sleep, but today have felt a little groggy, almost as if I didn’t get a good nights sleep. But that’s pretty understandable.
