Question: My 3 year-old son has never been a “great” sleeper, but I have managed to keep his sleep time within the realm of what children his age should be getting. Generally toward the minimum requirements suggested. Around 2 years of age he began having difficulty waking up from his noon time nap. He would scream uncontrollably for 45 minutes, and nothing could stop it. You could almost set your watch by it. I did not record the data, but it seems as though when he would have an especially stimulation/tiring morning, he would wake in this condition.
Now at 3 years old, this state is happening before nap as well, if he is overtired, and sometimes after nap. His behavior during the phase is becoming very aggressive and quite scary. He gets 10 hrs at sleep at night, and a 2 hour nap around 1230pm. It seems to me that he is getting “caught” somehow mentally, and can not get out of the mind frame.
